The Belgian duo Muller Van Severen has been awarded the prestigious title of ‘Designers of the Year 2023’ at the Maison & Objet exhibition. This recognition marks a natural milestone in the careers of these two prominent figures of contemporary design.

Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen, hailing from backgrounds in photography and sculpture, embarked on their design journey nearly a decade ago with a simple yet ambitious domestic project: crafting lighting fixtures to revitalize their home in Evergem. This endeavor gave birth to a collection of ‘furniture-sculptures’ characterized by vibrant colors, often serving multiple functions, all while maintaining a consistent minimalist aesthetic.

Their distinctive use of color, manifest in their selection of materials and thoughtfully designed palettes, stands as a defining characteristic of their work. Their ‘Bended mirrors’ for Galerie kreo are a perfect illustration of this approach, turning a sheet of polished steel into a versatile work, serving as both a mirror and a shelf.

To celebrate their recent accolade, a selection of Muller Van Severen's creations, designed exclusively for the gallery, is currently on display in a dedicated showcase until the end of October.
